Moraxella catarrhalis is a Gram-negative bacterium and common cause of middle ear and respiratory infections. Rarely, bacteremia and meningitis can also develop. Infants, smokers, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals are most susceptible to colonization and subsequent infection.
