Clostridium difficile
Clostridium difficile is a Gram-positive, spore-forming bacterium found in the gastrointestinal tract. Most people with C. difficile colonization are asymptomatic. However, antibiotic therapy can disrupt the balance of gut flora and lead to C. difficile infection. Older patients and those exposed to healthcare facilities are most at risk.
