Intracranial Infection
The intracranial infection animal model allows for research on meningitis, encephalitis, and myelitis, which can occur when localized infections spread to the central nervous system via the bloodstream, infecting the brain and spinal cord.
Procedure
We have established an intracranial infection model in mice in which animals are challenged via injection through the cisterna magna into the subarachnoid space. Test articles may be administered via oral gavage (PO), or intracranial (IC), subcutaneous (SC), intravenous (IV), or intraperitoneal (IP) injection. Each study parameter (animal strain, pathogen, comparator(s), and dosing schedule) can be customized to meet client needs.
The endpoints for this study include mortality tracking and CFU burden in harvested organs and/or blood. Pharmacokinetic profiling, blood chemistry, additional tissue harvests, and histology are available upon request.
Pathogens
TransPharm has validated an intracranial infection model using the following pathogen:
- Cryptococcus neoformans
- ATCC 24067
