Staphylococcus intermedius
Staphylococcus intermedius
Staphylococcus intermedius is a Gram-positive bacterium originally isolated from the nostrils of pigeons, dogs, and horses. However, this bacteria is zoonotic and can cause bacteremia, pneumonia, and skin infections in humans. The name S. intermedius reflects that this species possesses phenotypic properties of both S. aureus and S. epidermidis, often leading to misidentification.
An infection model using this pathogen can be validated upon request.
