Enterobacter cloacae
Enterobacter cloacae
Enterobacter cloacae is a Gram-negative bacterium that is typically commensal in the gut. However, some strains are associated with bacteremia and osteomyelitis, as well as infections of the skin, soft tissue, respiratory tract, and urinary tract. Immunocompromised and hospitalized individuals are especially at risk. Enterobacter species are ESKAPE pathogens – a group of bacteria capable of escaping the actions of antibiotics – leading to higher rates of resistance and transmission.
