Time-Kill Kinetics Assay
Time-Kill Kinetics Assay
Rather than assessing antimicrobial activity at a single time point (MBC assay), a time-kill kinetics assay measures activity at specified intervals over a longer incubation period. Therefore, time-kill assays determine the rate at which an antimicrobial agent kills a pathogen.
Procedure
A standard concentration of a susceptible pathogen is introduced to broth containing test article at time zero and the culture is incubated. At pre-determined times, aliquots are removed and the microbe population is enumerated.
